The Age has covered the approval of a national ZP50 emergency permit, as mouse numbers continue to affect farming communities across Western Australia and parts of South Australia.
The article notes that growers have been calling for access to stronger mouse bait after standard 25 g/kg zinc phosphide products proved inadequate under severe plague conditions.
Grain Producers Australia Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said mouse plagues can cause "massive crop and financial losses in the absence of adequate management tools, as well as significant psychological stress for farmers, their families and those living in affected areas."
