Issues that affect profitability of grain producers will be the focus of what Grain Producers Australia will bring to focus at the Agricultural Productivity Roundtable this month.
The Weekly Times reported that GPA was urging government action on input costs, chemical access and supply chain resilience as a part of its representation the roundtable hosted by Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in Brisbane.
GPA Chair Barry Large said the top priority was chemical access due to its vital role in the production of crops.
“Access to chemicals underpins production and profitability,” he said.

Mr Large said GPA would also continue pushing for national reform focused on lowering farm input costs and improving local supply while reducing regulatory burdens, enhancing digital connectivity and reliability, strengthening grain supply chains along with freight cost efficiency and market competition, and reviewing grain producer levies, biosecurity protections, and taxation opportunities.
He said it was important that grain growers are heard and there needed to be a policy to manage risks and sustain growth, especially considering the 2024-25 winter crop forecast was 59.8 million tonnes, the third largest on record.
