Grain producers will retain the use of fenitrothion for stored grain treatment, but use for insect control will be phased out over the next 12 months.
This is the decision from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), with protection of human health and the environment at the centre of the decision.

The Weekly Times reported that Grain Producers Australia Research Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said the decision was not a surprise, but there were concerns about what chemicals would be available to manage locust plagues, with fipronil also being reviewed.
“We are still able to use fenitrothion for insect control in stored grain, and that is valuable,” Mr Weidemann said.
