STOCK JOURNAL | APVMA issues emergency permit for stronger mouse bait: what you need to know

Emergency access to 50 g/kg zinc phosphide bait has given grain growers another tool to manage severe mouse infestations, following months of industry advocacy.

Reporting on the decision, Stock Journal spoke with Grain Producers Australia (GPA) about what the approval means for growers facing plague conditions.

GPA Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann welcomed the outcome, saying the existing 25 g/kg bait "isn't strong enough to tackle the level of mice issues that we're seeing at the moment."

He said the emergency permit would provide growers with a more effective control option while maintaining strict stewardship requirements.
