The Grain Producers Australia Board and staff undertook Emergency Plant Pest Response Deed (EPPRD) training in February 2026, delivered by Plant Health Australia.
The session was scheduled following discussions between GPA and PHA to improve understanding of the EPPRD and ensure the organisation is prepared to meet its responsibilities as a signatory.
The training focused on how a response to an exotic plant pest is managed nationally, including the roles of industry and government, decision-making processes, and the operation of key response committees.
Board members and staff worked through practical scenarios to understand how GPA would participate in a response, including representing grain producers in decision-making, managing impacts on production and supply chains, and contributing to response activities.
The session also covered funding arrangements under the EPPRD, communication protocols, and the importance of timely decision-making during an incident.
The training ensures GPA is better equipped to support grain producers and fulfil its obligations under the EPPRD in the event of an exotic pest incursion.
