AAP | Farmers fuming over live sheep export ban and budget

Federal Government moves to ban live sheep export have been funded in the 2024/25 Federal Budget prompting industry backlash at the same time as news the Government's highly-criticised biosecurity protection levy would be shelved in the Senate.

Coverage of the budget week updates and sitting week by Yahoo News and APP included news that some industry representatives walked out on an address by Agriculture Minister Murray Watt at a budget breakfast to express their outrage over the sheep export ban.

Grain Producers Australia Chair Barry Large told AAP that grain producers were grateful the crossbench senators had taken notice of industry feedback on the flawed biosecurity protection levy policy.

"We're thankful that they've taken the time to listen and be pragmatic," he said.
