Expectations the Federal Government will outline the agriculture and land sector plan for reducing emissions shortly has farm leaders calling for non-binding targets.
The Weekly Times reported that while the industry was consulted in 2023, there have been no details released on what the plan will look like, but word is there will be more ambitious emissions reduction targets for 2035
Grain Producers Australia Chief Executive Colin Bettles said consultation with the sector had "gone backwards".
He said Australian grain producers were “doing the heavy lifting on emissions reductions, while achieving long-term productivity gains”.
Mr Bettles said greenhouse gas accounting by CSIRO showed Australian grain had some of the lowest emissions intensity compared to other exporting nations.
