THE WEEKLY TIMES | EU agriculture and food plan puts Australia's exports at risk

The new roadmap for food and agriculture in the European Union has the potential to restrict external markets from using certain practices and chemicals if they wish to trade with the region.

News of the EU's 'A Vision for Agriculture and Food' was released earlier this year, but full details have only just been released.

The document asserts that bans on chemicals that exist the EU should apply to products being imported and for Australian canola growers, this will affect their use of paraquat.

The Weekly Times published a comprehensive article speaking to many different agricultural sectors, including Grain Producers Australia Chair Barry Large.

"No Australian farmer would use a product they didn’t think was safe around their families or for consumers," he said.

The herbicide is currently under review by Australia's chemical regulator, but it still permitted for use in Australia.
