STOCK JOURNAL | ACCC demands branch sell-off before approving $475m Elders-Delta merger

Elders has been given approval to take over Delta Agriculture almost 12 months after announcing its plans, with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) outlining some conditions.

This follows delays by the ACCC on the decision after industry groups raised concerns that the acquisition could reduce competition in local areas where both Elders and Delat have a retail store.

Grain Producers Australia's southern region director, Andrew Weidemann, said the ACCC's approval conditions partly recognised concerns about the creeping agenda of reduced supply chain competition, and its impact on grain grower productivity.

With essential farm input costs already at record high prices, GPA said it would examine the ACCC's decision closely to further understand the reasoning behind its final determination.
