QUEENSLAND COUNTRY LIFE | Mouse bait permit delay reaches parliament

Grain growers are starting seeding without access 50 gram zinc phosphide mouse baits despite application made by GPA for ongoing use.

The organisation applied to have the permit extended on November 9, but the APVMA refused this application and requests for a minor use permit.

Growers can still access 25g baits, however CSIRO mouse expert Steve Henry said this formulation is considered less effective for mice control.

The issue is now being discussed in Federal Parliament, with Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey seeking clarification on the APVMA permit refusal from Agriculture Minister Murray Watt.
