FARM ONLINE | Local paraquat class action potential as legal firm investigates options

A herbicide vital to pulse growers and no-till cropping practices is at the centre of an Australian class action investigation.

Legal Firm Shine Lawyers has confirmed it is reviewing options and seeing contact for people potentially exposed to paraquat and displaying Parkinson's Disease symptoms.

Farm Online reported on the activities of the class action and responses by growers that a science-based approach was important in the process.

Grain Producers Australia chief executive Colin Bettles said proper scientific process needed to be followed.

"GPA's longstanding approach to the use of all farm chemicals - not just paraquat - has been consistent, in supporting proper application of scientific methods, evidence and credible facts, to establish the truth about product safety and efficacy, for both human health and the environment," Mr Bettles said.

He said GPA would monitor the potential class action.
