Grain Producers Australia (GPA) is urging farmers to share their spray records as part of an effort to support the continued use of Paraquat.
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) is reviewing the chemical and proposing to ban its application via optical or camera spot spraying.
Grain Producers Australia Interim CEO Pete Arkle Spoke to ABC Ballarat highlighting that camera sprayers have been revolutionary for many grain farmers across Australia particularly in those fallow spraying situations.
"What we see on the ground and what our GPA members are telling us is that growers are really seeing only about 5-10% of their paddock area treated when they're actually using these camera sprayers," he said.
"By using camera sprayers farmers have been able to use chemicals in much lower proportions than what the label states, which lead to improved environmental and economic outcomes."
