Grain producers are managing increasing mouse activity across key cropping regions, with numbers continuing to rise through seeding.

Grain Producers Australia RD&E spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said the challenge is not just the presence of mice, but how quickly numbers can escalate.

“Mice can turn from manageable to a real issue in a matter of days once seeding starts,” Mr Weidemann said.

“That puts immediate pressure on crop establishment and reinforces the need for effective control at the right time.”

The situation is adding another layer of complexity for growers working through a tight seeding window across the Australian grains industry.
