The emergency approval of 50 g/kg zinc phosphide bait marked a significant milestone for grain growers battling severe mouse infestations.

Speaking with The Weekly Times, Grain Producers Australia Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann welcomed the decision.

He said growers finally had access to "a bait that is fit for purpose under plague conditions."

He said the permit would help reduce crop losses by improving bait efficacy when mice have abundant alternative food sources.
