Syngenta's decision to withdraw from the Australian paraquat market has attracted international attention.

The Times of India reported on the implications for Australian growers, highlighting concerns that while generic products remain available, the withdrawal raises broader questions about future product choice, investment and long-term access to essential crop protection tools.

Grain Producers Australia Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said the decision highlighted the need to maintain confidence in Australia's agricultural chemical market.

"Australia is a relatively small market, and decisions like this call future investment into question," he said.

"If companies cannot see sufficient value in maintaining products here, growers risk being left with fewer choices at the same time we urgently need more tools to manage herbicide resistance."
