Grain Producers Australia(GPA) has reinforced the importance of a thorough, evidence-based review of paraquat in coverage by Stock & Land, as growers continue to await the APVMA's final regulatory decision on the widely used herbicide.
GPA Research, Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said grower safety remained the priority, while stressing the need for the regulator to consider all available evidence before reaching a final decision.
"For us, farmer safety is paramount so while we firmly believe in the product's safety when used according to label instructions, we want to have a thorough review," he said.
The article also examines the reliance many grain growers have on paraquat for managing glyphosate-resistant ryegrass and the uncertainty surrounding future weed control options if access to the herbicide changes.
