GPA WELCOMES SA GOVT GRAIN DUST DELAY
Grain Producers Australia (GPA) warmly welcomes the South Australian Government announcement today to delay workplace changes to grain dust.
The South Australian government has announced a delay of implementing a lower Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) of grain dust for a period that includes at least the next two grain harvests.
This practical announcement from the South Australian government, follows in the footsteps of Victoria and supports the grain sector in relation to new standards that have been of great concern for grain growers.
GPA has been vocal about the issues related to this change, including running national surveys that showed 91% of growers are concerned about their ability to reasonably measure, monitor, and manage upcoming work exposure limit changes, and 96% of growers do not know where to go to get more information about upcoming changes.
This week GPA announced they've produced a dedicated webpage to provide growers across the nation with a "one-stop-shop" for key information about the upcoming workplace exposure limit changes and guidance about what they mean for their businesses. HERE
Safe Work Australia released a list of workplace exposure limits, to come into effect on 1 December 2026, for approximately 700 substances and mixtures to replace existing workplace exposure standards.
