Grain Producers Australia welcomes the announcement of Sharon Starick as the new Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Chair.
GPA Chair Barry Large said Mrs Starick was well-placed to take on the role and her extensive experience within the industry and GRDC would ensure a smooth transition to the role.
“We look forward to working with Sharon to support a strong, profitable and sustainable grains industry,” he said.
“The GRDC plays a key role in ensuring grain producers can stay at the forefront of farming practices, technology and opportunities for innovation."
Minister for Agriculture Julie Collins announced the appointment of Mrs Starick alongside Bob Nixon (Deputy Chairperson), Kellie Benda, Shaun Coffey, Natalie Sommerville, Bindi Turner and Richard Heath in accordance with the Primary Industries Research and Development Act.
Mrs Starick is a South Australian grower and has been on the GRDC Board as a director since 2018.
She will take on the role from October 1, 2024, replacing current GRDC Chair John Woods, who has been in the role since October 2016.
Mr Large said GPA wished Mr Woods luck with his future endeavours and thanked him for his efforts and willingness to collaborate during his time in the GRDC Chair role.
“John has been great to work with and has the best interests of grain producers and the wider industry at heart,” he said.
“His contributions are greatly valued.”
GPA is a representative organisation (RO) to the GRDC and works closely with the GRDC Board and Executive to inform GRDC objectives, activities and share key grower concerns from the GPA state farming organisation members through its Policy Council.
