Grower interest in autonomous machinery and the barriers to wider adoption were explored by Farm Online, drawing on the 2026 report compiled by Grain Producers Australia, the Tractor and Machinery Association and SPAA.

GPA RD&E spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said the technology offered practical efficiency gains, particularly in spraying, but regional connectivity remained a constraint.

“These systems rely on reliable connectivity to operate effectively, and that's not consistent across all production regions,” he said.

The article also highlighted the need for clear rules and machinery suited to Australian farming conditions.

“Farmers need to know their rights and their obligations,” Mr Weidemann said.
