A fire at the Viva Energy Geelong Refinery is expected to weigh on Australia’s fuel supply at a time of heightened global pressure.
The Bloomberg report highlights the incident as a setback for efforts to manage fuel availability, with reduced refinery output adding to existing supply constraints.
Grain Producers Australia RD&E spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said the fire reinforces broader concerns about the reliability of fuel supply into Australia.
“This incident comes at a time when global markets are already tight, and it shows how quickly domestic disruptions can add to that pressure,” Mr Weidemann said.
“With only limited refining capacity in Australia, growers remain exposed to both international volatility and issues closer to home.”
The timing is significant, with fuel remaining a critical input as growers continue seeding operations across key grain producing regions.
