Who pays for a national grains levy consultation was the focus of an ABC WA Country Hour interview with GPA RD&E spokesperson Andrew Weidemann.

Mr Weidemann outlined discussions with Grain Growers Limited following the Agriculture Minister’s request for further consultation, and GPA’s push to access GRDC reserves to fund the process.

“It’s not really fair to be frank to put the onus member organisations to have to pay the bill to actually go through the process,” he said.

He argued that growers needed an ongoing mechanism to review their levies, rather than arrangements for a single vote.

The interview also covered progress towards an emergency permit for ZP-50 mouse bait, pending a final regulatory decision.
