ABC VICTORIA COUNTRY HOUR | APVMA timeline extension necessary for evidence considerations

Updated: 2 days ago

An announcement from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) to delay a final decision on its review of the paraquat and diquat regulations has been acknowledged as important to make an evidence-based decision by peak agriculture body Grain Producers Australia (GPA)

GPA Research Development and Extension Spokesperson Andrew Weidemann said while the extended timeline was frustrating and had drawn out the review process significantly, the APMVA was required to go through a significant number of submissions and also consider new research out of the US EPA.

He spoke to ABC SA Country Hour following the announcement and flagged that it was also important that APVMA assessments could take into account the bigger picture when assessing chemistries and this was something GPA would be raising in the future.
