Mouse pressure and input uncertainty were among the seasonal challenges discussed by GPA Southern Region Director Andrew Weidemann on ABC Radio National Breakfast with Sally Sara.
Mr Weidemann outlined efforts to secure emergency access to ZP-50 mouse bait and explained how dry conditions and production costs were influencing crop choices.
“Barley is that lower risk option,” he said.
While diesel access had improved, he raised concerns about supplies later in the season and called for measures to help growers invest in on-farm storage.
“Long term is a real concern about whether we'll have fuel for harvest.”
