From homes and swimming pools to emerging crops, 7NEWS explored the widespread impact of the mouse plague on regional communities across Western Australia and South Australia.

Alongside first-hand accounts from affected families, the article highlighted the approval of Grain Producers Australia's emergency permit for 50 g/kg zinc phosphide mouse bait as growers work to reduce escalating mouse numbers.

GPA Western Region Director Duncan Young said the outbreak had become another challenge for growers already facing rising production costs.

"This outbreak is another cost on top of that, and potentially in a year where budgets were already pretty tight before the war began."
